Olympique Marseille have announced the signing of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur on a one-year loan with an obligation to buy for £17m.
Hojbjerg has fallen out of favour at Spurs, starting just 10 of their 39 games last season. With Ange Postecoglou’s midfield partnership of Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr preferred.
The Denmark international midfielder’s current deal with Tottenham Hotspur has entered the final year and has attracted interest from a number of clubs. UFABET most notably Atletico Madrid, before Marseille eventually snapped him up.
While Spurs have also confirmed that the 28-year-old has been loaned to Marseille for the rest of the season. With an obligation to buy for £17m.
For Emile Hojbjerg, he has made 184 appearances in all competitions for Spurs in the four years since joining from Southampton. Scoring 10 goals and has just qualified for Euro 2024 with the Denmark national team.
The Denmark international made 143 Premier League appearances for Tottenham after joining from Southampton in August 2020.
“Pierre’s finest moment in a Spurs shirt came against the team he’s now joining, when he fired home a late winner in the Stade Velodrome to secure top spot in Group D of the UEFA Champions League in November, 2022,” Tottenham said in a statement. “We wish Pierre all the best for the future.”
Hojbjerg is one several veteran players to have departed the club this summer, along with Eric Dier who joined Bayern Munich permanently after a spell on loan and Ivan Perisic, who has returned to his native Croatia with Hajduk Split.
